Taylor Swift won big at Sunday’s MTV European Music Awards
Taylor Swift took home a big award at the MTV European Music Awards on Sunday. Swift, who along with Harry Styles was nominated in seven categories each, stepped down after winning four awards, including Best Artist, Best Video and Best Long Form Video.

Swift, currently topping the charts with “Anti-Hero” from her record-breaking new album “Midnights,” made a surprise appearance at the awards ceremony in Düsseldorf, picking up the latest in a long line of accolades for the singer-songwriter.
“The only reason this happened to me is the fans,” she said while accepting her first award that night.
David Guetta and Bebe Rexha opened the show with their just released hit “I’m Good (Blue)”.
“We didn’t know we were going to explode on TikTok and go viral,” Reksha said on the carpet. And here we are performing it and getting nominated for ‘Best Collab’.”
Back at the EMAs for a passionate performance of “Will of the People,” Muse was hot on his toes and later won Best Rock Performance. He dedicated the award to Ukrainian and Iranian women.
This year’s show was hosted by newlyweds Rita Ora and Taika Waititi. Ora didn’t disappoint with the various costume changes, and Waititi joked that he was expressing his inner pop star.
Absent-minded Nicki Minaj also topped the list with three awards in the Best Song, Best Hip-Hop and Super Freaky Girl categories. Styles, currently on tour in the US, won the award for best live performance.
Following their Eurovision win in May, Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra delivered one of the most powerful and emotional performances of the night, turning the hall blue and yellow in support of Ukraine.
On the red carpet, frontman Oleg Syk explained that his newfound fame allows him to spread support and awareness of the plight of the Ukrainian people.
“It is important that we have the opportunity to be the voice of Ukraine, to perform around the world, to talk about Ukraine, to talk about the war, to talk about our culture and the culture that is fighting the war.”
British rapper Stormzy performs the ballad “Fire Babe” off his long-awaited third album, “This Is What I Mean,” released this week.
OneRepublic performed “I Ain’t Worried”, a song from “Top Gun: Maverick”, and said Tom Cruise’s special video introduction was hard to come by.
Other performers of the night included Ava Max, sparkling in a giant diamond, singing “Million Dollar Baby” and performing a medley of her hits “She’s All I Wanna Be” and “Oh Oh.”
Seventeen gender-neutral categories voted on by fans were announced during the evening. Broadcast from the PSD Bank Dome, the show will be shown in more than 170 countries.
